HEVL Wrote “Tell Me You Like To Dance” for the Whole Crowd
A Midwest band built a single around one simple job: get a big crowd moving.

Some songs are made for headphones. HEVL made “Tell Me You Like To Dance” to be played loud, for a lot of people at once. Chris Nash and Bryan “Hazy” Russell wrote it with their live crowd in mind, and they were clear about what they wanted from it: dance, sing along, and have a blast.
“Love and Peace Always.”

Written for the crowd
The title does a lot of the work before the first note. “Tell Me You Like To Dance” is half invitation, half dare, the kind of line a singer throws at the crowd to see who throws it back. That is exactly where the song came from. HEVL love their audiences at live shows, and they wrote this one as a gift to them.
It runs 3:18 and does not waste the time. There is no long build to sit through and no detour to wait out. The band says it is a very fun song to play and to sing, and you can feel that the fun was the brief, not an afterthought. A song like this is judged by one test: does the crowd start moving when it kicks in? HEVL wrote it to pass that test.
Two songwriters, a lot of map
HEVL are a Midwest band, and their story runs through Los Angeles, Chicago, and Ohio. Chris Nash and Bryan Russell, who goes by Hazy, met in 2023 and started the band to make one kind of music: groove-driven alternative for people who want to feel good, move, and enjoy everything that is good about a song.
They come from different musical backgrounds, and they treat that as the point rather than a problem to solve. The credits on “Tell Me You Like To Dance” keep it in the family. Nash and Russell wrote the music, wrote the words, and produced it together. Nobody else was steering. What you hear is the two of them deciding what a big night with a crowd should sound like.
The band is also building in public, one song at a time. “Scratchpad (Turn Your Light On)” came out in August, “Tell Me You Like To Dance” followed on September 2, and “Fall” arrived in mid-October. That is three singles in about ten weeks, with more recording already underway. It is a steady, patient way to grow, and it gives listeners a reason to keep checking back.

Put on “Tell Me You Like To Dance” first, ideally somewhere you are allowed to move. Then follow HEVL for what comes next. Their own sign-off suits the song just as well: love and peace always.
