Powers Lets “It’s Kickin In” Open the Door to Paint Me Rich Paint Me Krazy

Two volumes, one affirmation, and the song chosen to lead the way in.

Some artists hand you a mission statement. Powers hands you three words and asks you to say them out loud. “Paint Me Rich” is the phrase behind Paint Me Rich Paint Me Krazy, Volumes One and Two, and “It’s Kickin In” is where Powers wants listeners to start.

“Paint me rich.”

Two and a half minutes up front

“It’s Kickin In” runs 2:29. That is not a lot of room, and Powers picked it to lead anyway. Out of everything tied to the Paint Me Rich Paint Me Krazy era, this is the track chosen as the first thing a new listener should hear.

We like that choice. A short song asks for very little and gives you a clear read on an artist fast. If “It’s Kickin In” lands with you, there are two full volumes waiting behind it.

A phrase turned into a body of work

Paint Me Rich Paint Me Krazy is not one release. It is two, Volume One and Volume Two, and they sit together as the recent center of the Powers catalog. The title does a lot of the talking. Rich on one side, krazy on the other, and the artist asking to be painted as both.

The heart of it is the first half. Powers created the phrase “Paint Me Rich” and calls it an affirmation. That is a useful way to hear it. An affirmation is not a boast about where you already are. It is something you say on purpose, again and again, until the life around you starts to match it.

That fits the way Powers describes the work, too: a unique sound, and a lot of hustle to get it into bigger conversations. That hustle has a paper trail. Back in November 2020, The Hype Magazine featured Powers and the single “What You Lookin 4.”

Two volumes under one name is what that hustle looks like on a release calendar today. The phrase came first. The records are the proof of how seriously it was meant.
