Ray

I’m Ray, creator of Stories Behind the Songs and founder of Tree Heart Records. I believe memorable music begins with authenticity—a distinctive voice, thoughtful writing, and a story worth hearing. Through my playlists, including “Artists You Should Know | Charlottesville & Beyond,” I highlight independent musicians whose work deserves a wider audience. I enjoy singer-songwriter, folk, Americana, rock, alternative, outsider, and roots music, but a compelling song can cross genre lines. I listen for emotional honesty, strong lyrics, memorable melodies, and production that serves the song. Tell me who you are, what inspired your track, and why it matters to you. Every submission gets a genuine listen; placement is based on musical fit and my honest response. I also offer paid Stories Behind the Songs artist features, but playlist decisions remain completely separate. I value identifiable working artists; fully AI-generated personas are not a fit.
