GAZAL Keeps the Song She Almost Gave Away on “HOW DO WOMEN FLY?”

Six funny, pointed songs about the moment women stop shrinking, from an artist who kept her best one for herself.

GAZAL in dark sunglasses and a pale blue knit, with blue clips in her hair.

GAZAL’s last project pulled men off the pedestal. HOW DO WOMEN FLY?, the six-song EP she released on October 16, is about what happens once they are down there. She wrote it between Sydney, Bali, and Los Angeles, co-produced it, and put it out entirely on her own.

“I want women to hear this and feel like they’ve got a big sister in the car with them, telling them they’re not crazy, they’re just early.”

The EP

The tracklist reads like a group of texts you would screenshot: “ONION (stfu),” “This man is a preacher,” “Pickup truck,” “Backpack,” “EAT D!RT,” and “Daisychains.” GAZAL co-produced all six with Aidan Hogg, naebird, and Ryan Harvey, and the titles alone tell you the kind of writer she is. She is quick, she is funny, and she always knows where the punchline is pointed.

The best story here belongs to “EAT D!RT.” The song spent six months on hold for Stray Kids before GAZAL decided to keep it. Plenty of writers would have taken the placement and been happy. She bet on her own voice instead, and that choice sums up the whole EP.

She also has a soft spot for the song that hurts the most. She wrote “Onion” the day after “Pickup truck,” and says plainly that the second one is hard to perform: “‘Pick Up Truck’ is the one I can barely sing.”

Her Own Room

GAZAL grew up in a Lebanese household in Sydney where the music was “classical, musical theatre, or whatever was playing in the grocery store,” and she taught herself the rest. Her debut EP, I Accidentally Burnt The House Down, arrived in 2023, followed by Gods Into Frauds in 2025. This year she was named to Rolling Stone Australia’s Fresh Sounds Class of 2026 and Live Nation’s Ones To Watch.

When she is not writing her own songs, she runs The Artist Studio in Sydney. In November she heads out on an Australian co-headline tour with byjaye. It is a lot of plates to keep spinning, and HOW DO WOMEN FLY? sounds like it came from someone who loves every one of them.

Start with “EAT D!RT,” the song she would not give away. Then go to “Pickup truck” for the one she can barely sing. Between the two, you will hear exactly why people keep putting her on lists, and why she keeps writing her own.
